Late goal sinks U’s

Cheltenham Town 1-0 Colchester United

Colchester United slipped to a late Sky Bet League Two defeat at top of the table Cheltenham Town, but remain six points above the relegation zone with two games of the season remaining.

Even if the U’s are to lose both of those fixtures – at home to Salford, followed by a trip to Tranmere – a superior goal difference appears key.
Connor Thomas bundled home the only goal eight minutes from time, profiting after Liam Sercombe’s flag-kick was flicked on by Charlie Raglan.

Cheltenham largely dominated proceedings – a single point from their last three matches will be enough to see them promoted.

Colchester United return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, May 1 when Salford City visit the JobServe Community Stadium (3pm).
