Harlow won by two wickets

Leigh-on-Sea were beaten by Harlow at Chalkwell Park as the Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Three promotion race hotted up with the finish line just over the horizon.

Third-placed Harlow dismissed the league leaders for 170 inside 48 overs. Mitchell Howarde (4/59) and Sarfaraz Ahmed (3/36) doing the bulk of the damage. Meanwhile, Jack Wagstaff and Matthew Wilson both reaching 41 for the home side.

Nevertheless, it appeared that Leigh was on course for an incredible victory as Harlow initially struggled, floundering on 1/4

And then 11/5. However, Jason McNally brought some stability to the innings, hitting an unbeaten 94 to help Harlow over the line. James Spencer and Paul Humphries each claimed three wickets apiece, ensuring the home side valuable bonus points.

Leigh requires 29 points from their final two games to ensure the title, but with Harlow facing another promotion hopeful in the shape of Westcliff on Sea, that target could sizably reduce dependant on the result.

Leigh on Sea hopes to get back to winning ways on Saturday, August 31 when they travel to Woodford Green. At the same time, Harlow faces West Essex at Marigolds. Both matches start at 12:30pm.

Points: Leigh on Sea 7 Harlow 25
