Leigh Town 3-2 Old Southendian Reserves
LEIGH TOWN extended their advantage at the top of the ProKIt UK Essex Olympian League Division Two to six points following a thrilling victory over second-placed Old Southendian Reserves at the John Burrows Recreation Ground.
Shane Cooper and a brace from Sam Irvine proved decisive for the home side, who had twice trailed to strikes from Luke Stillwell and Dan Dowd.
Old Southendian had their chances to snatch a share of the spoils, but Town’s organisation and resilience were key during the final stages.
Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, Old Boys’ Ben Manley explained: “We never really played to our potential and that’s two games in a row we’ve conceded poor goals either side of half time which have cost us the game.
“We have to get better at protecting our leads but fair play to Leigh Town, they’re a good side and ran out deserved winners.”
Manley also spoke about the injury sustained by influential skipper, Oliver Tatton-Bennett: “We wish him a speedy recovery. Unfortunately, he broke his collarbone and will be sidelined for some time.”
