Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool – Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Thursday 8pm – Preview
It might not seem quite such a daunting task to face Liverpool just now.
The Reds defence of that long-awaited top-flight title hasn’t gone smoothly. Indeed, Jurgen Klopp’s side has lost their way of late, with Burnley ending their 68-game unbeaten home run in the Premier League, while they haven’t won in the league since mid-December and crash out of the FA Cup at Manchester United.
Nevertheless, Lilywhites chief, Jose Mourinho wasn’t playing the game and insisted the Merseysiders still amounted to a serious challenge
No, I don’t feel that at all – playing Liverpool is playing Liverpool, independent of all the context, independent of everything,” he explained.
“I don’t feel it is an advantage and I don’t feel it is a disadvantage – simple.”
Mourinho believed that Liverpool’s current form was little more than a blip: “Every club, especially the traditional top six has this situation,” he added.
“Not one team started with winning and is still winning after nineteen matches and a few months of competition. Everyone has a difficult period. Some early, some later, some in the middle.
“I feel completely natural that some results happen. And then Liverpool had a period where the results are not going in their direction. But the coach is the same, the players are the same and the team is the same.”
