LOCAL FISHERMEN have once again pulled together to raise much-needed funds for the Southend Cancer Unit.

The annual Diann Hoskyn Charity Carp Match was staged in Eastwood, with a sizable total of £545.00 gleaned for the worthy cause.

The competition was won by Richard Boyden with a total weight of 59lb 15 oz, just ahead of Kevin Chandler (39lb) – the latter claiming the biggest carp award – a stunning catch weighing in at 23lb.

Spokesperson, Paul Rashbrook, told Yellow Sport: “I would like to thank our sponsors Korda, Angling Direct of Rayleigh, Petes Tackle of Rochford, FMS foils, Southend for all their support.

“We raised £545.00 over three matches fished in August, September and October. We hope to stage a fourth match from next year.
