Local heroes celebrated at Stars of Brentwood Awards

The Brentwood Borough Council Stars of Brentwood Awards were held on Thursday October 21 at the Brentwood Centre.

These awards celebrate and recognise the huge efforts of the community, voluntary and faith sector in supporting residents throughout the pandemic.

A number of awards were also made to acknowledge contributions to sport, health and wellbeing over the past 18 months.

Chair of the Community and Health Committee, Cllr Cliff Poppy said; “Thank you to everyone who sent in their nominations and to those who attended. The event was a success and it was great to gather and honour individuals and groups who stepped forward in so many ways to help others during what was an incredibly tough time for many through the lockdowns and restrictions.

“Congratulations to all the well deserved winners. It is humbling to know that residents went back to basics and have gone to extraordinary lengths to support their community, show incredible kindness to a neighbour and dedicated their year to volunteering and helping others.

“These awards are a small token of appreciation to the huge impact all the winners have had to the community. The night was exciting way to celebrate and recognise the efforts of some utterly amazing local people. As we slowly return to normality, let us hope that the help and support amongst residents continues and we will see you all at the next awards.”

The public nominated individuals of any age, or an organisation who has made a significant contribution to their community or to sport, over the course of the pandemic. The winners were invited to a dinner and entertainment event held at the Brentwood Centre.
