Loughton care home manager crowned best in UK

The manager of a Loughton care home has been named the UK’s best in prestigious national awards.

Hazel McGwyne from Woodland Grove care home on Rectory Lane beat six other finalists to take home the Manager of the Year prize in the National Care Awards.

Judges commented that although the calibre of finalists presented them with a difficult choice, “one stood out as she identified that her staff were as important as her residents, and to provide good care the staff need to be looked after as well.”

The National Care Awards celebrate the very best in the long-term care sector, highlight excellence and rewarding those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.

“I am so honoured to be awarded Care Home Manager of the Year,” said Hazel.

“I think everyone who works in care is a winner but especially my team at Woodland Grove. I love my job and that is because of the staff and the residents. Every day is a new experience and although challenging, it is always very rewarding.”

A qualified nurse, Hazel has 40 years’ caring experience and has been at Woodland Grove since 2018.
