Stowmarket Town v Great Wakering Rovers – Pitching In Isthmian League North – Bury Road – Report
Stowmarket Town 2-1 Great Wakering Rovers
Steve Butterworth was left deflated after his Great Wakering Rovers side passed up several decent opportunities, allowing hosts, Stowmarket Town to come from behind and take all three Pitching In Isthmian League North points at Bury Road.
“Literally, if we didn’t have bad luck we’d have no luck at all,” Butterworth told Yellow Sport.
Butterworth included new signings, Connor Hammond and Tom Anderson in his starting line-up and the villagers took the lead midway through the opening period through Connor Martin. However, Chris Casement levelled four minutes before the intervals.
Jack Ainsley’s second-half goal won it for Stowmarket: “I feel like a broken record,” the Rovers boss added.
“We defended really well against a very good side. We hit the bar twice, the post once and had another effort cleared off the line. It just didn’t go for us.”
Great Wakering Rovers now turn their attention to the Buildbase FA Trophy. They travel to Walton Casuals on Saturday, October 30 (3pm) for a third qualifying round tie.
