Maher linked with Gillingham job?

Southend United manager Kevin Maher is believed to be on the radar of Sky Bet League Two outfit Gillingham after the Kent club parted company with Stephen Clemence earlier this week.

The 47-year-old has done a fantastic job during testing times at Roots Hall Stadium, leading the club to within a whisker of the Vamarama National League play-offs despite a ten-point deduction due to financial irregularities.

Maher was linked with the Gillingham job back in October following the departure of Neil Harris. However, Southend reportedly rebuffed their approach. The former Republic of Ireland under 21 international also signed a new long-term contract with the Blues as recently as December along with his assistant Darren Currie and first-team coach Mark Bentley.

Gillingham finished the season in twelfth place in League Two. Gareth Ainsworth, Crawley Town boss Scott Lindsey and Bromley chief Andy Woodman have also been linked with the Priestfield Stadium hot seat.
