Southend United boss, Kevin Maher has wasted little time in reshaping his squad.

The Vanarama National League strugglers announced that loan duo, Hamzad Kargbo and Benji Kimpioka had returned to Queen’s Park Rangers and Sunderland respectively shortly before confirming the arrival of Sheffield United pair, Zak Brunt and Kacper Lopata, who will remain with the Roots Hall Stadium club until January.

19-year-old midfielder Brunt has already had stints in several top academy’s, including Aston Villa, Manchester City, Manchester United and Derby County.

The player has produced some eye-catching displays in the Blades under 23 side having linked up with the clubs from Matlock Town in 2018.

Tall central defender, Lopata is a Polish youth international who has featured for Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup

Blues head coach, Kevin Maher enthused: “I’m delighted to have them both on board.

“Both come highly recommended and from what we’ve watched. We’ve been inundated with players, but these are two that were known to us and we know what they can add so we think they can be great additions.

“Darren knows them having worked with them, and a couple of other people that we’ve spoken to as well recommended them, so we’ve done our checks, watched a lot of videos.

The Blues boss added: “When you’re getting the right recommendations from the right people, and you follow that with your own eyes then I think they will be great additions for us.

“They play in areas that we identified we needed strengthening so I’m really pleased to get them over the line.

“They’ll be in with us tomorrow so we can assess where they’re at. I know they’ve been training and working hard so they will come into contention for the weekend.”
