Maher wastes no time with Blues’ rebuild

Kevin Maher has wasted little time in strengthening his Southend United squad with the signings of midfield duo, Dan Mooney and Cavaghn Miley from Altrincham and Eastleigh respectively.
Former Welsh under 21 international, Mooney was Alty’s leading marksman during the last campaign, scoring thirteen times, bagging the clubs’ Players’ Player of the Season and the National League Young Player of the Year awards in the process.

Speaking to www.southendunited.co.uk, Maher enthused: “Dan has obvious qualities.

“A left-footed player gives us balance and he’s a player that will always create and score chances. I think he’s a great signing for now and for the future for us.

“It’s an area we wanted to work on with goals and assists. To be a part of a team that will improve is big, he’s at a great age and what we have in the building already is important for him as he’ll only improve himself, but he’ll improve the team and others around him.”

Meanwhile, Miley arrives at Roots Hall Stadium having gleaned a wealth of experience at Eastleigh, making more than 175 appearances during his five years with the Spitfires. “He’ll always put his foot in and work hard and we believe he’ll be a fantastic fit for us,” Maher added.

“He’s tidy on the ball, very competitive and strong, left-footed as well like Dan so he gives us the balance. The age he’s at, he’s in his prime which is huge so it’s a signing we’re delighted to have on board.”
