Man arrested after attempted burglaries on Canvey Island

A man has been arrested as part of an investigation into a series of attempted burglaries on Canvey Island.

Police were made aware of a series of social media posts which appeared to show a video of a man attempting to enter multiple properties.

On Saturday August 5, a 30-year-old man from Canvey Island was arrested on suspicion of four counts of attempted burglary, three counts of theft from a motor vehicle and one count of fraud.

Detective Inspector Nick Brunton said “We know that these attempted burglaries were causing a lot of concern within the community.

“I understand that there are still a number of images online regarding this investigation. I would advise the public to remove these now so there is no risk to ongoing proceedings.

“Whilst I appreciate that social media can be a powerful tool for spreading awareness, posting photos can be detrimental to ongoing investigations, so we would encourage the public to use the correct channels and contact the police directly.

Anyone who hasn’t done so already, please contact us and submit any images or footage to us, quoting incident number 570 of August 5.”

If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to these incidents, you can submit a report at or use the online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am-9pm.

Alternatively you can call 101.
