Man arrested after incident at Westcliff restaurant

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a serious assault in Westcliff-on-Sea.

Officers were called to the Toby Carvery in Prince Avenue at about 9.55pm on Thursday May 23 after reports that a man was injured outside the premises following a disturbance.

They found a man with serious injuries to his neck. He was taken to hospital and it is now believed his injuries are not life-threatening.

A 53-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and the possession of an offensive weapon.

Inspector Michael Peterson said: “This was a busy pub and we believe there may be several people who witnessed what happened last night and may be able to help us with our investigation.

“It doesn’t matter how small a detail – we want to hear from anyone who can help us establish the facts of last night.”
