Man charged with knifepoint robbery in Rochford

A man has been charged after a knifepoint robbery at a shop in Rochford.

Police were contacted at around 6.50pm on Sunday June 30 to reports of a robbery at a convenience store in West Street.

It was reported one suspect entered the shop and demanded cash, before leaving with a two-figure sum.

An arrest was made on Thursday July 4. Jay Phipps, 37, of Rochford Garden Way, Rochford, has since been charged with robbery.

He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today (Saturday July 6) where he was remanded in custody until a further hearing at Basildon Crown Court on August 5.
