Man charged with murder after death of woman in Chelmsford

Detectives have charged a man with murder following the death of a woman in Chelmsford.

Police were called to Dorset Avenue, Great Baddow at around 2.30pm on Friday February 9 following reports of a suspicious man.

Officers quickly attended and after engaging with the man, attended an address in Readers Court where they found a seriously injured woman aged in her 60s.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sebastian Compton, 47 of Readers Court, Chelmsford was arrested on and has now been charged with the woman’s murder.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday February 12.

Detective Chief Superintendent Rob Kirby, leading the investigation, said: “I continue to ask anyone who has information or footage of any part of the incident, particularly in the areas of Readers Court and Dorset Avenue, to get in contact.”
