Man in custody after suspected arson attack at Havering Town Hall

A man is being held by the Metropolitan Police after Havering Town Hall was hit with a suspected arson attack on Monday May 20 that led to a fire in one of the ground floor offices.

This comes after a spate of incidents including windows being smashed in the building, council vehicles being vandalised, and offensive graffiti sprayed in a nearby underpass.

Although it’s unclear if any of these incidents are connected, Havering Council has expressed about the rise in vandalism and antisocial behaviour in Romford.

A statement said: “This selfish behaviour ultimately results in additional pressure on already stretched council budgets when picking up the repairs and cleaning bill.”
