Concord Rangers v Dulwich Hamlet – Vanarama National League South – The Aspect Arena – Report

Concord Rangers 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Concord Rangers goalkeeper Melvin Minter produced a man-of-the-match performance with a string of top-class saves to deny Dulwich Hamlet as both teams played out a lively and entertaining draw at Thames Road.

The Beach Boys almost took the lead in the seventh minute when Teddy Perkins headed against the bar but Hamlet weathered the early threat and then started to dominate as the half went on with former Celtic and Southend United wing-back Andre Blackman looking impressive down the left flank. And it was Blackman’s pass that put Danny Mills through on goal one-on-one with Minter, who saved the resulting shot well.

Just before half-time, Ronnie Vint’s header from Sam Deadfield’s cross forced another save from Minter to ensure the teams went into the break, all square.

Relentless pressure from Hamlet forced Minter into two further top-quality saves before Dan Smith’s tap-in midway finally beat him through the second half.

Following the goal, Concord came back strongly and it was no surprise when the impressive Ricky Modeste flicked in an equaliser following good work down the right-hand side by Lewis Johnson.

Hamlet had a big appeal for a penalty turned down in the last minute after they felt Vint had been fouled in the box and in the first minute of stoppage time, Minter yet again pulled off another fine
save from Mills’s header to deny the visitors once more.

A 1-1 draw, and despite both teams maintaining their unbeaten league record this season, Concord will undoubtedly feel happier with the point than Dulwich Hamlet, who given the chances they created will likely look back and feel it was a game they should have won and won well.
