A man has appeared in court charged in connection with an incident in Southend where a police officer was injured.
The incident occurred in Rylands Road at around 12.30pm on Thursday July 22 and involved a vehicle fire.
A responding officer sustained burns which required hospital treatment.
Thankfully their injuries are not described as life-threatening or life-changing and they have been discharged from hospital and are recovering at home supported by friends, family, and colleagues.
Ryan Bonell, 40, of no fixed address, was arrested and has been charged with arson with intent and GBH with intent.
He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday July 24, and has been remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on Friday August 20.
