Mason buoyant ahead of Tottenham’s Wembley showdown with City

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur – Carabao Cup final – Wembley Stadium – Sunday 4:30pm – Preview

Spurs head to Wembley as underdogs, nevertheless, rookie chief, Ryan Mason insisted that the Lilywhites received a lift following Wednesday’s Premier League win over Southampton in N17.

“There’s no doubt Wednesday night was massive, just for the whole energy around the club, the players, the feeling, it’s important you go into a massive game like we have on Sunday feeling good,” the 28-year-old explained.

“And I think the manner in which we won the match Wednesday night. It was a good feeling, the lads felt confident, they felt comfortable, and hopefully, that momentum can build into the weekend.”

The trophyless cabinet has been a thorn in Tottenham’s side for some time. Mason explained just how much it would mean to stun Manchester City and lift the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2008: “It would mean a lot. It would mean a lot for the players as well.

“They’ve had to deal with some difficult moments. I think most importantly the feeling the fans would get and what that would do for the football club as a whole.

“These are the games Tottenham want to be involved in. Thankfully we are and hopefully, we can go there and get a positive result.”
