Southend United have confirmed the signing of experienced Irish midfielder, Alan McCormack on a short-term contract.
The 36-year-old initially linked up with the Blues on three separate loan deals from Preston North End before joining the club permanently in January 2007.
The Dublin-born player appeared more than 150 times for Southend, but moved to Charlton Athletic in July 2010, then subsequently on to Swindon Town, Brentford, Luton Town and most recently, Northampton Town.
Following McCormack’s release from the Cobblers at the conclusion of the last campaign, he has signed with Southend until January 2021.
After becoming the Blues second signing of the day the former Republic of Ireland under 19 international told www.southendunited.co.uk: “It doesn’t feel like I’ve been away.
“When I had a phone call with the manager I was getting more and more excited to come back and I’m delighted it’s done.
“I loved my time at this club beforehand. I moved away to try and do something different and new in my life but I’m just thankful that I’m able to come back and, hopefully, make a difference here.”
