Dagenham & Redbridge 1-1 Stockport County – Reaction
DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE extended their unbeaten Vanarama National League sequence to five matches. However, boss Daryl McMahon suggested his side could offer more following their 1-1 draw with Stockport County at Victoria Road.
The Daggers looked slightly the better side during a keenly contested encounter. However, it looked as if the Hatters had claimed the points thanks to a last-minute strike from substitute, Liam McAlinden.
But the home side salvaged a point thanks to a substitute of their own – Chike Kandi rifling into the roof of the net four minutes into stoppage-time to keep McMahon’s me a point above the dropzone.
In hindsight, the Daggers chief believed it was a decent point: “Yes, in the end, it is because we’re 1-0 down in the 89th minutes and there’s not a lot of time – could have been 2-0 down from the restart where we lost concentration – I’m probably a bit disappointed – Elliot (Justham) has kept us in it at 1-0,” he explained.
“You hope for a chance, you get a chance and Kan (Chike Kandi) scores. So from that perspective, yes, you are happy to get the point – snatching a draw from the jaws of defeat.”
McMahon continued: “But our overall game, for me, it’s a winning performance, some of the stuff we’ve done. And if I’m brutally honest, we didn’t hit the levels we’ve hit in the last two games either.
“I expect more from the group – a lot more from the group than we have seen today.”
