McMahon; We’ve had to adapt

FC Halifax Town v Dagenhem & Redbridge – Vanarama National League – Shay Stadium – Preview

Daryl McMahon is ready for the new Vanarama National League season to get underway although his Dagenham & Redbridge side has had to get used to an unusual schedule following several inactive months.

Speaking to www.daggers.co.uk ahead of their long opening day trip to FC Halifax Town, McMahan said: “Yes, I’m looking forward to it – the lads are ready to go.

“We’ve had to adapt to it like every team has. It’s been a tough time – a lot of players sitting at home for a long time.

“We needed a longer pre-season probably, just to get people going. You couldn’t go into it as quickly as we normally do because of the break everyone has had. Trying to manage that as well. It was different, but the lads have got through it really, really well – I’m looking forward to tomorrow

The Daggers chief can’t wait for the return of supporters but conceded that empty stadiums are something football will have to get used to for the foreseeable future: “It’s the same for everyone – it’s not ideal, we want fans inside the stadium – every team will say the same,” he added.

“Everyone loves having fans. It was great here against Concord – We had a crowd in. But we know now, throughout the season, well, at least until March, we’re not going to have any fans in the stadium. That’s the same for all teams now – we’ve got to get on with it and motivate yourselves.”
