The Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League Cup and Plate Trophy finals are scheduled for Wednesday, August 18 at Rankins (6:15pm) with the league’s top two, Rayleigh and Westcliff On Sea going head-to-head for the cup, while Rayleigh Fairview and Civic Centre battle for the plate.
Westcliff sealed their place in the final with a win over Southend On Sea & EMT. Alex Portugal retired unbeaten on 50, while Pinkerton contributed 48 to their 157/7 – Mohan taking 5/26 for the Southchurch Park club.
SOSEMT pushed all the way, with Abedin also retiring on a half-century. However, with the light fading, Baker produced a tight spell, taking 3/23 to secure a seven-run success.
Rayleigh’s route was somewhat easier after they hit 129/1 off sixteen overs against Eastwood.
Toby Turner (51) and Chris Frost (38) provided the platform for their victory. Then Danny King-Frost (2/6), Steve Adams (2/3) and Shaun Du Plessis (1/8) kept it tight with the ball, restricting Eastwood to 55/6 and leaving them 74 runs short of their target.
Rayleigh Fairview reached the plate final, receiving a but after Alleyn Court forfeited. Meanwhile, Civic progressed after a hard-fought victory over Leigh On Sea at the last four stage.
Leigh reached 116/5 in a sixteen over-contest, with Watson (34), TJ Bailey (30) and Smith 27* amongst the runs. Noor Ali Khan (2/10), Gurpreet Singh (1/19), and Will Dove (1/22) keeping Civic in touch.
Singh then hit 46 and skipper Dave Colwill 23* as Civic got home in dramatic fashion with two balls to spare.
