Westcliff On Sea and Rayleigh Fairview picked up silverware at the Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League cup and plate finals took place at Rankins.
In front of a sizable crowd, Rayleigh posted 89/7 from sixteen overs. Tight spells from Tom Baker (2/10), Dave Hewitt (2/8) and Prosser (2/15) caused most of the damage – Rayleigh recovering from 17/4 then 32/6 – Shaun Du Plessis unbeaten on 26.
Du Plessis took 1/14, but Alex Portugal (38) and Charlie Lockhart (27) saw Westcliff home inside fourteen overs.
Meanwhile, in the Plate Final, Rayleigh Fairview posted 127/7 from sixteen overs. Jack Broad (34) and Josh Faires (19) provided a solid start, while, A McKay contributed an unbeaten 22 – Gurpreet Singh with 4/32 the pick of the Civic attack.
Fairview secured their first Plate success in three attempts. Tom Webster 1/14 and S.Collins 2/11 providing tight spells. Singh (23), Brad Smith (17) and Dave Colwill (14) doing their utmost with the bat in vain for Civic.
League Secretary, Richard Deadman thanked the clubs for their assistance in organising the ties at a moments notice: “The games had not been scheduled into the league programme due to Covid restrictions and were added to the programme in August,” he explained.
Mr Deadman also expressed his gratitude to umpires Stewart Orrock, Jagroop Singh and Euan Davies and made special mention of retiring stalwart Richard Harrison for all his efforts over the years, supplying umpires for the finals and recent representative match.
