Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League – Round-Up

Two of this weeks’ five Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League fixture were postponed.

The scheduled match between Southend On Sea & EMT and Rayleigh Fairview was called off due to the inclement weather conditions, while Hockley was forced to forfeit their tie with Rayleigh due to unavailability.

As a result, Hockley are deducted points – Rayleigh remains just clear of Westcliff On Sea at the top with a one hundred per cent record.

Westcliff have two wins and a defeat to their name. They saw off Alleyn Court Aces at Chalkwell Park. Batting first, Westcliff posted the highest score of the season with 170/4 off 20 overs.

Prin Patel got them off to a flyer with a quickfire 50 (retired). Charlie Lockhart with 39 and Tom Hickey, 24 helped keep the momentum going.

Only Ishan Maden 1/18 off 4 overs and Adam Mayhew 2/34 (4) provided resistance.

Aces started well in reply, but once Ilan Frankel (40) and Maden (38) the result was never in question. Arun Fitzgerald 2/5, Pinkerton 2/28 and Prosser 1/6 caused most of the damage for Westcliff. The School side was all out for 120 in 18 overs, falling 50 runs short of their required total.

On a gloomy evening at Belfairs Park, Eastwood set Civic Centre a target of 101 to win in 16 overs. Eastwood’s 100/6 was mainly thanks to 35 from Cam Hill.

Adnam Khan took 3/17 for Civic Centre. On a slow wicket and heavy outfield, Civic always struggled – tight bowling from James Drabble (3/17), Harry Beaver (2/16) and Alec Hume (2/14), as well as good catching, saw the local authority side fall 12 runs short on 88/9.

In the final game of the week, Leigh beat Emersons by 51 runs. Kevin Sargent and Greg Hammond both retired on 50 to help Leigh reach 156 without loss in their 16 overs. Emersons, Jack Wagstaff scored 33 not out at the back end of the innings but the electrical contractors’ side were unable to overhaul the target finishing on 105/6. N.Sims 2/20 had the best bowling fixtures for Leigh.
