Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League – Round-Up

The wet weather has hampered the opening round of Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League and Cup matches. Nevertheless, some cricket has been possible, with some notable individual performances standing out.

Civic Centre cantered to a 107-run victory over Canewdon in the East Division.

The visitors posted a sizable 188 for six from their twenty overs, with W Ur-Rehman retiring not out on 54*, F Mackay similarly on 38*, while David Colwill contributed an unbeaten 28 * – N Damodaran (2/20) and J Berry (2/30), were the pick of the Canewdon attack.

The home side was never really in touch with the chase. K Lee and J Broad each scored 20, while M Hughes returned two for 17 for the winners.

Civic also made progress in the Richard Deadman Evening League Cup with a five-wicket victory over Westcliff-On-Sea 1st at Chalkwell Park.

Westcliff scored 120 for seven in a match reduced to sixteen overs. G Singh hit 23 for the home side, while Matt Curtis returned excellent figures with the ball of three for 14.

Darshan Shetty pulled Civic back into contention with a superb knock, before retiring not out on 55*. David Colwill and Curtis saw them over the line with two balls to spare.
