Two local derbies dominated this week’s Medlocks Southend Evening Cricket League fixtures and both had a significant effect on the current table.
Rayleigh maintained their one hundred per cent record at the top of the table with a victory over Rayleigh Fairview. Meanwhile, Leigh On Sea came out on top against Westcliff On Sea at Chalkwell Park in another keenly contested encounter.
Rayleigh Fairview posted 74/9 off sixteen overs, with Joe Turner contributing 20 – Hackerman impressing with the ball for Rayleigh, taking 4/15 during his four-over spell.
Rayleigh reached their target inside fourteen overs with Carl Lees unbeaten on 48 – N.Moore did his utmost to stem the tide, but finished with 0/14.
Luke Guyler provided the league’s best bowling performance of the season so far, sensationally taking 4/8 as the Alleyn Court Aces kittled Canewdon for 35.
Adam Mayhew provided ample back-up with 2/5 in a match reduced to fourteen overs. Noel Smith retired out on 51, while Rob McKay was unbeaten on 44 as the Aces posted 135/2 and recorded their first victory of the season. Gary Holmes, with 1/22, a crumb of comfort for teh well-beaten villagers.
A hard-fought game at Belfairs saw host’s Eastwood dismissed for 111. Ryan Creasy – retired out on 52 – with the bulk of the haul. Shah (2/18), Glen Norfolk (2/15), and Baker (2/16) impressing with the ball for visitors, Southend On Sea & EMT.
Southend struggled early on but recovered through Joe Sibbons (31) and Norfolk (21). But ultimately, they were to fall eleven runs short on 100/8 –
Pragash 3/16 and Oli Harp 2/13 the pick of Eastwood’s attack.
Hockley’s fixture with Emersons was cancelled due to a wet pitch at Broomhills and will be replayed later in the season.
