The Weather continues to hamper cricket fixtures up and down the country. Nevertheless, several Medlock Southend Evening League matches beat the summer showers, with Eastwood, Civic Centre and Westcliff-On-Sea 1st claiming exciting victories…


Eastwood completed an East Division double over league leaders Alleyn Court Aces following another well-contested match at Belfairs Park.

Aces posted 123, with Vijay hitting 32, Thomas 30 and Impey 19. Joel Squires impressed with the ball for Eastwood, finishing with 4-0-28-4. His figures included a memorable hat trick, the first of his career. Rhys Tomlin was also amongst the wickets with 2.2-0-21-2.

The home side reached their target with sixteen balls to spare. Alfie Jeeves led the way, scoring 44 off 32 balls, while Praghash Ganeshalingam contributed 23 from 26 – their unbeaten fourth-wicket partnership carried the home side to a seven-wicket success.

Civic Centre also recorded a seven-wicket success as Rankins were beaten in a fifteen-over match.

Rankins reached 114 for five with Adam Warners hitting 40 and Sandeep Gangireddy unbeaten on 32* – Callum Mortimer and Martin Hughes were the pick of Civic’s attack.

Civic reached their target with sixteen deliveries in hand. Wali Ur Rehman was unbeaten on 44* from 26, and Darshan Shetty 23 off 17, to close the gap on Alleyn Court Aces at the summit.


In the West Division, Table-toppers Westcliff-On-Sea 1st narrowly beat Rayleigh at Chalkwell Park by 11 runs.

Westcliff posted a sizable 181 for four with Tom Pinkerton 51*, Alex Portugal 50* and Pete Barnes 37* amongst the runs.

Responding, Rayleigh fell just short. However, there were notable batting performances from Jake Osbourn 50*, Toby Turner 36, Sam Keene 29 and

Sean Miller 28.
