The Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League has lost one of its oldest member clubs this week with the news that Emmerson’s are to withdraw after struggling to field a team.
Emmerson’s results will stand, while cancelled fixtures with be forfeited. On behalf of the Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League, Richard Deadman said: “The Committee would like to say a huge thank you to the management, staff and players from Emerson’s who have taken part and always supported the League throughout their existence.
“Special thanks go to Emerson’s manager, Mick Adams who obtained financial sponsorship that enabled the league to survive during difficult times. He has also been an outstanding Vice- Chairman of the league for the past five years.
In other news, Rayleigh continued to lead a tight battle for the title by recording a 46-run victory over Canewdon.
Rayleigh posted 157/7 with Steve Adam hitting 41 and Matt Walker 26 – Jack Broad the pick of the Canewdon attack with 2/29.
The villagers fell short, reaching 111/8 in response. Broad followed up his success with the ball, hitting 26, while Chris Ashdown reached 25 – Callum Mayfield’s 2/24 helping Rayleigh over the line with some to spare.
Westcliff On sea are second after their fixture with Emmerson’s was forfeited, while Alleyn Court Aces hold on to third despite their clash with Southend On Sea & EMT falling foul of the inclement weather.
Leigh On Sea remains in contention after coming out on top in a thrilling encounter with Civic Centre.
Leigh posted 148/8 – Civic falling by eight runs after reaching 140/7.
Hockley returned to winning ways after bowling out Eastwood for 52 in 14.1 overs. Chris Pastfield took 4/12 and R.Barker 3/12 to secure a comfortable triumph.
Earlier, Hockley had scored 140/6 – Joe Robbins (50* retired), A.Barker (22) and R.Barker (20) making an impression with the bat – Stirrup taking 2/18 for Eastwood.
