Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League Round-up

Westcliff On Sea are in pole position as the Medlock Southend Evening Cricket League reaches the final few hurdles.

Westcliff top teh table with 21 points following their victory over Southend On Sea & EMT.

Abedin hit and 34 and Mohan 20 as SOSEMT posted 110/7 – Dave Hewitt taking 3/14 for the leaders.

Mohan’s 1/8 kept SOSEMT in the match. However, Alex Portugal (retired 50*) and Hallows (20) saw Westcliff home with an over to spare.

Only a superior run rate separates Westcliff from second-placed Rayleigh.

Alleyn Court Aces are a point further back after their win over Eastwood.

Ilan Frankel retired on 52while Neil Harvey 42 and Steve Johnson 28 provided the bulk of the Aces 168/2 in a sixteen over encounter – Dove with 2/26 for Eastwood.

Responding, Eastwood struggled to keep up with the rate. Ishan Madan (3/8) and Adam Mayhew (3/20) largely ensuring that they fell 74 runs short of the target and kept the Aces title aspirations alive.

Leigh On Sea will need to re-organise recently postponed matches to keep up with the chasing pack. Elsewhere, Civic Centre won at Canewdon – the visitors’ posting 137/7 in a sixteen-over contest. Humanan (35), Dave Colwill (32*) and Bob Curtis (21) were the main contributors. Crisp taking 2/19 for Canewdon.

Replying, Canewdon reached 115/5 with Broad contributing 20 and Ashdown 47 – Martin Robinson’s 2/8, Humanan 2/10 and Noor Ali Khan 1/17 taking wickets for Civic.

Civic Centre will finish the season in mid-table along with Eastwood and Hockley. However, with new teams joining the league ahead of next summer and the possibility of a two-division system, final places could prove vital to those with top-flight aspirations.
