Essex found themselves soundly beaten by Middlesex, who cantered to an eight-wicket Second XI T20, South Group encounter at Garon Park, Southend.
Early concerns surrounded the wellbeing of Middlesex wicketkeeper, Jack Davies, injured whilst frantically attempting to snare Feroze Khushi.
After several minutes of treatment, Robert White donned the gloves – Davies leaving the action supporting his damaged left shoulder.
But in warm, sunny conditions, Essex struggled to contain a potent Middlesex attack. Khushi top-scored for the home side, hitting 32 off 21 balls. However, only Jamal Richards (13) joined the 23-year-old in double-figures. Nick Gubbins doing the lions share of the damage with 3/21 – Martin Andersson (2/16 off three overs) and Ishaan Kaushal (2/11 from two) also amongst the wickets for the visitors.
Middlesex reached their target inside twelve overs. Joe Cracknell unbeaten on 57 and hitting Ben Allison across the rope to secure a comfortable success – Shane Snater providing Essex’s only success with the ball, taking 2/11
