Middlesex’s Under 16s recorded a narrow five-run victory over their Essex counterparts in an otherwise evenly contested encounter at the Peter Butler Oval, Garon Park.

Isaac Humphrey led the way for the Seaxes, scoring 64 off 102 balls, helping the visitors to 207 for nine from their fifty overs. Ayan Obaid Syed was the pick of the Essex attack, returning figures of 7-0-29-3, while Alex Harvey had 2/24.

The Essex chance went to the wire. Daniel Gladwell made a fist of things, hitting 55 off 61, while skipper Aryan Ahmed scored 47. Tom McLeish took five for 29, including the prize wicket of Gladwell, helping Middlesex home by the narrowest of margins.
