Stevenage v Concord Rangers – Emirates FA Cup first round – Lamex Stadium – Saturday 3pm – Preview
Having restored some pride and earned a resounding first Vanarama National League South victory of the season, Danny Scopes has urged his Concord Rangers charges to win their individual battles when the Beach Boys head to the Lamex Stadium to take on out of sorts Sky Bet League Two outfit, Stevenage, on Saturday.
Scopes got the perfect response from his side following last weekends six-goal drubbing at Maidstone United as goals from Jason Raad, Alex Wall, Temi Babalola and Charlee Hughes confirmed a 4-1 victory over Dulwich Hamlet at Champions Hill.
And their first three-point haul of the season under their belts, the Concord chief will continue his ‘mind over matter’ theory with his players.
There was plenty of soul searching and looking in the mirror following Maidstone,” Scopes told Yellow Sport.
“We learned from the defeat and recovered at Dulwich with a better performance, both as a management team and as players.”
Concord face a Stevenage side that has won just once in League Two this season. Nevertheless, Scopes accepted his side start as heavy underdogs: “We are under no illusions of the task in hand,” he added.
“We face a full-time EFL side with plenty of experienced campaigners.
“But we go there with the mentality of seeing how many ‘small wins’ we can get from our game plan and see where it takes us.
“The pressure is on Stevenage to beat us. We can go there with no fear and nothing to lose.”
