Canning Town 3-5 Old Southendian
Mitchell Ali bagged an impressive hat-trick as Old Southendian won an entertaining ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division encounter against Canning Town at the West Ham Community Ground.
Craig Paton and Sam Adcock were also on target for the triumphant Seasiders who remain anchored to the bottom of the table a point from safety.
“As per last week, we made changes to the starting eleven to give everyone game time but the philosophy and formation stayed the same,” Old Boys boss, Dave Tubbs told Yellow Sport.
“We controlled the ball in the first fifteen minutes and found space to get in behind them on several occasions before we took the lead.
Old Boys led 3-0 at the break: “Under normal circumstances, we would have kept it the same but these aren’t normal circumstances,” Tubbs added.
“We brought on all four substitutes, which as expected disrupted our momentum leading to a mistake for them to score.
“But the response was good. We scored a fourth soon after – once again, the forwards combining well with great movement to slide Mitchell in to drive past the keeper.
“Credit to Canning Town, they scored a terrific goal from 30-yards, then added another with ten to go. At 4-3, it could have been a nervy finish, but Mitchell completed his hat-trick with a classy lob from the edge of the box.
“We were pleased to get minutes into everyone and were deserved winners, although the margin should have been greater. Every week the boys are improving. We are trying to implement a way of playing that can bring the best out of them. They are an honest bunch. We look forward to working on the fine-tuning over the next six games.”
