Southend United v Port Vale – Sky Bet League Two – Roots Hall Stadium – Saturday 3pm – Preview
Another game, another opportunity to end their winless sequence. Southend United welcome a Port Vale side in play-off contention following back-to-back Sky Bet League Two victories and including two former Blues charges in the shape of David Worrall and Theo Robinson.
Worrall was a crowd favourite during his two-year stint at Roots Hall, while frontman Robinson found the net twenty times during two spells by the south-east Essex coast.
But back to the present, and with just two points from a possible twenty-seven, supporters are rightly concerned over the quality and mindset of the current Blues crop. Nevertheless, boss Mark Molesley insisted the dressing room contains personnel with the right attributes to turn the campaign around.
“There are characters in there and this experience will also make characters,” Molesley explained.
“We’ve got to keep believing and we’ll come out the other side and we’ll be stronger for it.
“We’ve got to back to work as quickly as we can, lick our wounds and come out fighting. It’s always difficult, it’s always going to hurt.
That never changes and is never going to change. Losing football matches turns your stomach but it’s time to stand up and be counted now.”
Molesley confirmed his side must now carry the fight without left-sided, Nathan Ralph, adding: “Unfortunately, we’ve lost Nathan for the season so that’s a real bitter blow for us.”
Jeevesie’s prediction: Southend United 0-2 Port Vale
