Mourinho focuses on the positives

Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Premier League – Sunday 4pm

Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City – Preview:

Jose Mourinho remained positive on what was achievable for his Tottenham Hotspur side ahead of their crunch clash with Leicester City in N17.

Amidst criticism over style, Spurs have found a little consistency, taking ten points from twelve on offer – winning three on the spin at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – giving themselves a fighting chance of securing a Europa League berth ahead of the new season.

“Yeah but it’s not possible now,” the Spurs boss explained when asked if he was frustrated that the top four was out of reach.

“Mathematically I think now it’s impossible to get top four. So we know now that for us it’s a fight until the end to try and get a Europa league position. I always thought part of the position in the table would be nice for us if we could feel good things in this part of the season.

“Because in the end, a new season is always a new season but there’s always a little relation to what you do in the previous one. So to end this season with the majority of the players back, the team being more solid, being more compact and having better results, I think is also good in relation to next season.”

Mourinho recognised the frustration but insisted that Spurs were heading in the right direction: “The feeling will be always negative, in relation to we know, we’re sure that without the problems that we had during the whole season we would be of course in a much different situation now,” he added.

“But that was our season. Since Hugo’s big injury at Brighton and then everything that happened after I arrived made the season impossible to be better than what it is.

“I think the boys deserve, but we need points to finish in a position that gives us Europa League next season.”

Spurs a face a Leicester side on course for a top-four spot, despite inconsistent form since returning to action following the lockdown.
