Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 RB Leipzig – Reaction
JOSE MOURINHO refected upon a difficult UEFA Champions League evening for his Spurs side, insisting they are still in the tie.
A spot-kick shortly before the hour from Timo Werner proved to be decisive in favour of impressive Bundesliga outfit, RB Leipzig. However, the visitors largely dominated the tie and will undoubtedly believe they should be heading home with a far more comfortable advantage.
“1-0 is 1-0, it’s not 10-0,” the Spurs chief snapped.
“The result is open. It’s as simple as that. We won’t be the first team to lose 1-0 at home and win the tie away.”
On a tough evening, Argentine, Giovani Lo Celso proved to be the pick of the bunch for Spurs.
“I think he played fantastic,” Mourinho enthused.
“He played in the middle, got a yellow card which is a huge limitation for a player against a fast side.
“Then he comes to the right side and he was phenomenal with the ball and without it.”
Less impressive was Dele Alli, who struggled to make an impact on the game and was replaced by Tanguy Ndombele midway through the second period, drawing an angry reaction from the England midfielder.
“I think he was angry with his performance – not with me,” Mourinho added.
“I think he understands why I took him off and the team improved.”
