Mourinho unsurprised by Rodgers impact

Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City – Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Sunday 2:15pm – Preview

Jose Mourinho isn’t surprised to see Leicester City amongst the Premier League frontrunners under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.

The Foxes Northern Irish boss worked with Mourinho at Chelsea and although career paths have taken the duo in different directions, the mutual admiration remains.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Leicester in N17 on Sunday, Mourinho explained: “I’m not impressed, I know how good he is.

“When I met him as a young coach in the academy and coming to join us in the first team and sharing with us many moments, I understood that he was a young guy with a great future.

“Anything he’s doing in his career is not a surprise for me, not at all. He’s very talented, he was and probably still is a guy who likes to study, learn and improve. He’s creative, he knows what he wants – he’s a very good coach – Period!

“He’s a very good coach so it’s not a surprise for me.”

Mourinho’s admiration extended to Foxes frontman, Jamie Vardy: “He’s the kind of player that I believe would be important in every team.

“Of course, a team with a different striker than he is would need to adapt many things.

“Of course, we have the best striker in England but Vardy is a player that would be important in any club.”

Mourinho confirmed that Gareth Bale is available. However, Japhet Tanganga is out, as is Erik Lamela – the game coming too soon for the Argentine to be included in the Portuguese chief’s plans.
