Mourinho’s homework comprehensive on Antwerp

Royal Antwerp v Tottenham Hotspur – UEFA Europa League Group J – The Bosuilstadion – Thursday 8pm

Jose Mourinho provided plenty of evidence that he has done his homework on Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League opponents, Royal Antwerp.

Spurs head to The Bosuilstadion looking to make it two victories out of two in Group ‘J’ following their 3-0 triumph over LASK in N17 during the opening round of fixtues.

“Since we got in the draw I am studying my opponents with my assistants and analysts,” the Spurs boss explained.

“Of course, I watch as many possible matches from Antwerp. I have a good feeling when I watch a team, I have a good feeling immediately about the coach level and even without knowing personally the coach Leko I can say immediately he has to be a good coach for the way the team plays and the way the team is organised.”

Mourinho continued: “If they don’t change, they play with five in the back but an offensive five, three plus two offensive wing-backs. The right one is the Japanese left-footed boy, of course very creative.

“On the left side a powerful, fast, strong left-footed. Then a good structure in midfield and then in attack, a good mixture of the power and experience of Mbokani and the intelligence, movement and feeling of Refaelov.

“A physical, aggressive team and powerful in set pieces. I would say probably our most difficult opponent in this group phase. The second match where we both have the three points it’s probably a very important match for both.”

Mourinho confirmed that Gareth Bale will feature in Belgium, adding: “Bale is playing. We all have – not just the feeling – but also the data that Bale is arriving. He is working very hard. He is being quite a great example for everybody.”
