Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur – Turf Moor – Premier League – Saturday 5:30pm
Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur – Preview:
Tottenham head to Turf Moor looking to end their recent desperate run of form as well as erase memories of a defeat in the north-west at this stage of the last campaign.
But it’s a depleted Spurs side that makes the long trip, and Jose Mourinho was quick to point out that replicating anything like the five-goal drubbing the Lilywhites handed out to the Clarets in December is extremely unlikely.
“Many teams go there and lose because, of course, it is not easy, they are in a fantastic moment,” Mourinho explained.
“When we played them the first time, the situation is impossible to repeat because Kane, Son and Sissoko they score and tomorrow they are not going to score.
“We have to find a way to score because we want to win the match. Lots of respect for Sean, the players and their mentality and stability. It is going to be difficult.”
Following the incident involving Eric Dier on Wednesday evening, the Spurs chief was quizzed as to whether he’d thought about resting the defensive midfielder.
“No, I would never do that,” the Portuguese boss added.
“The player played so well. Nothing happened, nothing to be afraid of, nothing to be ashamed of. The football world is behind and understands completely the circumstances.
“Nothing. Of course, he’s right to play.”
