Mourinho keen to end St James Park hoodoo

Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur – St James Park – Premier League – Wednesday 6pm

Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur – Preview:

Having lifted some of the building pressure with a North London derby success over Arsenal, Jose Mourinho takes his Tottenham side to Newcastle, looking to end an unusual Premier League hoodoo.

Mourinho has never tasted a Premier League victory at St James Park and had little clue as to why the Magpies home had been such an unhappy hunting ground during his time in the hot seat in England.

I have no idea – no idea,” Mourinho confessed.

“I won there in a cup match, I think it was extra-time, Frank Lampard goal if I remember that. I think we won that cup.

“Apart from that, a few draws some defeats with two different clubs, in this case, Chelsea and United. I don’t know. I love to go there. This time without the fans I will not love so much.

“But I love to go there and feel such an amazing atmosphere that they always have. I think it’s quite normal when a big team goes there, Newcastle fans to be supporting the team in a special way.

“I really don’t know? it happens. There are some other opponents where the record is incredible, like for example against Arsenal. Against Newcastle away, for some reason? But I don’t care. It doesn’t influence me, It doesn’t make me think that tomorrow we are not going to win just because of my record, it’s just a negative record. I really don’t care.”

Mourinho looks likely to be without Dele Alli – The England midfielder still struggling with a troublesome hamstring. While it isn’t clear whether Serge Aurier will feature following the tragic death of his brother.
