Moyes’ boys back to their best

West Ham United v Brentford – Premier League – London Stadium – Reaction

West Ham United 4-2 Brentford

Jarrod Bowen’s hat trick relieved some of the pressure surrounding West Ham United boss, David Moyes, who insisted his side was back to their old selves following an eight-match winless sequence in all competitions.

Bowen’s feat was topped up with a cracker from Emerson as the East Londoners recorded a welcome 4-2 Premier League victory over bogey side Brentford at the London Stadium.

“I thought we looked a lot more at it tonight,” the Scotsman enthused.

“I think we’ve played decent football at times over the last few weeks, but we haven’t created enough or taken enough chances. Tonight we were much better.

“Jarrod obviously stole the show with his goals, but Lucas had opportunities, Tomáš missed some good chances, and there were others.

“It wasn’t perfect, but it was a huge improvement, and scoring four goals at home is always impressive and a nice thing to see happen.”

On Bowen’s performance, Moyes added; “I’m thrilled for Jarrod.

“He’s not had that many chances in the last few games, and he’s maybe not been at his best. He had an ankle injury last month and I think that hindered him, but he’s beginning to find his way again now.

“He’s always going to love it when Lucas and Mo are playing on either side of him because he’s always going to get opportunities to score.

“I think anyone who’s watched a lot of us this season will have been excited to see Paquetá back tonight, and linking up with Emerson. Their understanding is so good, and I think Paquetá’s return made a big difference to the team.

“Jarrod’s goals – and Emerson’s – were brilliant tonight, and he finished them well. There were lots of good things overall tonight, but Jarrod’s performance was brilliant and I’m delighted for him.”
