Arsenal 1-0 West Ham United – Reaction
DAVID MOYES was left frustrated after his West Ham United side passed up several decent opportunities before succumbing to Alexandre Lacazette’s VAR -assisted winner for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Hammers largely dominated the contest, with Jarrod Bowen hitting the post and Michail Antonio passing up a glorious opportunity before football’s most controversial gadget overruled and off-side flag from Sian Massey-Ellis to hand the Gunners all three points in controversial circumstances.
“We didn’t deserve to lose it,” Moyes bemoaned.
“In recent weeks we have made individual mistakes defensively which has cost us in games, maybe a goalkeeping mistake or whatever. But today, the mistakes was not taking our chances when we had them, that would be the disappointment.
“Apart from that, I thought the players did a great job, really well – made several chances but we couldn’t convert them.”
Moyes recognised that missed chances had again proved costly: “We should have been in front, we played well,” he added.
“We didn’t start the second half as well but after the first ten minutes of it, we grew back into it and looked more likely.
“In some ways, I have made more changes here at Arsenal than I have made in a long time and that is the most disappointing thing.
The Hammers chief continued: “That was the mistakes, not taking them or making the right choice of pass to score which for us, at the moment, is as bad as a goalkeeper making a mistake, a defender slipping over or whatever so we have to make sure that when we get the chance, we take it.”
Moyes was clearly upset over the VAR decision, adding: “I’ve seen it a bit on the iPad at the time and I don’t know what you want me to say.
“Someone makes a decision and it’s supposed to be correct so I am really stuck for words now, I don’t know what to say to give you a line on it at all.”
