Moyes hurting after Hammers late loss

Manchester United v West Ham United – Premier League – Old Trafford – Reaction

Manchester United 1-0 West Ham United

A deserved share of the spoils was within touching distance. West Ham – solid and secure, almost throughout, had comfortably contained a frustrating Manchester United side. But then, despair in the final few seconds – quite literally!

Ryan Fredericks miscued – Martial, fed Cavani – The Uruguayan raced clear before picking out Rashford who rolled into an empty net from close range. An afternoons toil up in smoke with the last action of the match.

The three United substitutes had combined to create, crystalise and execute the decisive moment. But Hammer boss, David Moyes didn’t overly believe that the home side had gone through the gears after making their eventual match-winning changes.

“I just see it as them having a strong squad, I did not necessarily think them bringing them on made it that much different,” the Scotsman explained.

“We defended well enough in that period. We completely switched off, we did not do things that I think you learn when you are a young player when you try to see games out and what you try to do in the last minute. And I thought we did not do that well in the last minute.

Moyes continued: “We defended well and had a good defensive organisation today but we lacked what we maybe had in recent weeks in our attacking play, which was not at the level. But you have to remember the level of the opposition and we were away from home.

“There were a lot of good things about it but the result is key and that didn’t go for us.”
