Chelsea 3-0 West Ham United – Reaction
David Moyes conceded that West Ham United needed to be better at both ends of the pitch following their somewhat harsh 3-0 Premier League defeat at Chelsea.
The Blues led thanks to an early free header from Thiago Silva but were made to sweat as the Hammers dominated for long periods after the break before succumbing to a late Tammy Abraham double.
West Ham passed up several half-chances, but Moyes spoke of the bigger picture rather than heap the blame on his shot-shy frontmen.
“It was one of the reasons but as I just said it was in the other box as well which we have to defend, whether it be a corner,” the Scotsman explained.
“We were playing well, but we gave them a second goal which makes the job doubly difficult, but we did a lot of good things, I thought this was a really big test for us tonight coming to Chelsea.
“We knew how hard this would be and I thought for long periods of the game, we did well enough, but we didn’t do so well in our own box to defend and in their box to score a goal.”
Despite the defeat, West Ham remained in the top half of the table following a solid first half of the season. Nevertheless, Moyes wasn’t prepared to rest on his laurels, adding: “No, I am not happy when we lose – I want to win.
“I don’t expect to lose, I expect to come and win and if not, try and get a draw.
“I expected to win though, and we lost tonight but as I said, this was a big test for us tonight as a team, and I think the players did a good job, they stood up to the test for long periods, and we made it a good game.”
