Fourteen new coronavirus deaths were announced today at east London hospitals.
The trust managing King George Hospital in Ilford and Queen’s Hospital in Romford confirmed 10 deaths.
Neighbouring Barts Health NHS Trust, which manages Whipps Cross in Leytonstone and four other hospitals, confirmed four deaths.
Barts Health NHS Trust recently became the trust with the second highest number of coronavirus-related deaths in London.
According to Public Health England, there were 269 coronavirus-related deaths in the UK yesterday.
So far, there have been almost 32,000 in the UK since the start of the pandemic, more than 28,000 of which were in England.
Residents are now being told to wear face masks on public transport and in some shops.
This advice had already been explicitly given in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
