New homes plan for Thurrock green belt

Plans have been submitted to build seven new homes on Thurrock green belt.

Thurrock Council has previously given planning permission for five homes on land adjacent to Portland Lodge, Brentwood Road, Bulphan after indicating seven homes would be rejected because it would increase the incursion onto green belt.

The new proposal again seeks permission for two addition homes “borrowing some extra footprint left over from the approved application”.

The land is presently used as an industrial site. The site comprises a collection of light industrial buildings, storage containers, and vehicles set around an unmade parking area.

There are three large storage containers located on the site which already approval for use as a dwelling. These containers will be removed.

The new homes are a contemporary design with pitched roofs, bay windows, projecting front porches.

In a report to the council the applicant said: “We hope that Thurrock Council sees merit in our proposal and agrees that the proposed development would in no way be of detriment to the green belt and the surrounding area.

“The additional dwellings proposed will not add any footprint to the development land and will be the same footprint/material and scale of what was previously deemed as appropriate for the site.”

The report added: “We believe the proposal complements to the already approved development site and is not in any way detrimental to the local area and its site constraints. The plans utilise the site to its full potential and is a modest addition to the existing land.

“The proposal responds to the pattern of historic development, design, detailing and materials of the existing site and local area.”

“We are confident that this is a good design that will be beneficial both to our client but also to the surrounding community and housing market. Getting this permission would mean that this site will finally be put to good use and be a positive addition to the area and green belt.”
