New mayor appointed for Havering

Havering has a new Mayor following the annual council meeting on Wednesday June 10.

Councillor John Mylod, who represents St Andrews ward, was elected to be Mayor of Havering for 2020/21 having served the last year as Deputy Mayor.

He was first elected to Havering Council in 1994 and previously served as Mayor of Havering in 2005/06.

The mayor’s wife, Patricia, will serve as Mayoress for the year. Patricia was previously a councillor in Upminster for 20 years.

Cllr Mylod becomes the first Mayor of Havering to be elected through a virtual vote due to the restrictions put in place due to the coronavirus crisis.

Cllr Christine Vickery, who represents Havering Park ward, has been named as Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Mylod said: “It’s a great honour and an absolute privilege to have been elected Mayor of Havering. I look forward to being able to support and champion the wonderful residents, businesses, and local community during these difficult times.

“My chosen charities to support will be announced in due course.”
