Matt Henry and Cameron Fletcher put together an unbeaten ninth-wicket stand of 79 as the New Zealand tourists continued their preparations ahead of the forthcoming Test series.
Facing a County Select XI at Chelmsford, Daryl Mitchell scored 58 off 119 balls, while opening batter, Will Young looked in good nick, hitting 46 from 96.
Nottinghamshire’s Liam Patterson-White impressed with the ball, taking three for 60, while Worcestershire’s Ben Gibbon (2/54) and Lancashire’s Jack Blatherwick (2/63) also enjoyed some success.
Essex’s Jamie Porter toiled fruitlessly, but economically during his twenty overs. Meanwhile, Henry and Fletcher carried the tourists towards 300 by the close. Henry had reached 65* from 68 balls at stumps. Mitchell provided plentiful support and will proceed on 22*. Play resumes on Friday at 11am.
