Newby late strike frustrates O’s

Rochdale v Leyton Orient – Sky Bet League Two – Crown Oil Arena – Report

Rochdale 2-2 Leyton Orient

Alex Newby’s late strike denied Leyton Orient three Sky Bet League Two points as hosts, Rochdale snatched a share of the spoils at the Crown Oil Arena.

Initially, Newby had given the home side the lead after just half a minute, heading home from close range after Corey O’Keeffe and Liam Kelly had combined to fashion an opening.

However, the O’s – looking to enhance their position amongst the play-off contenders – hit back. Aaron Drinan profiting after Dan Kemp had played him in. Then Craig Clay volleyed the O’s ahead midway through the second period.

But with time running out Newby struck again, leaving the East Londoners frustrated as they slipped out of the top seven.
